“Tragedy knows no colour, creed or background.”
Me in a word: Proactive
Born and raised in Soweto by a single parent who was a domestic worker, I attended primary school in Diepkloof, Soweto. After finishing matric, I worked in a restaurant and then a bar while I studied marketing, but couldn’t complete my studies due to financial difficulties.
I started working at Game, selling electronics, then gained experience at companies selling printers, ink cartridges and Apple products. Finally, I joined Learning Curve in 2011.
I always wanted to become an architect, so I taught myself the basics, then learnt CAD programs. Today, I still work closely with architects and do some design jobs.
At home, I’m watching Narcos, an American-Colombian crime series. Seasons 1 and 2 are based on the story of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.
My wife Grace and I have been together a long time, and survived struggles together. She’s been my strength when I’m down. I was once hit at a pedestrian crossing by a motorbike, which dragged me for a 5 metres, causing a knee injury.
The Maldives – now that would be my top holiday choice. It’s lovers paradise with a vibrant culture. I’d love to take my wife there.
What our world needs most is more compassion and unity. COVID-19 showed us that tragedy knows no colour, creed or background. If I could, I’d eradicate poverty. No one should be poor when the world has so much wealth, and no child should go to bed hungry.
Learning Curve is a great company, a family unit. I love the brand and the people.
I have a good friendship with my long-time colleague, Julie. We had difficult early days, scraping together petrol money, but we survived, and have both built families. There’s also Jayshree who’s so committed, and Bishen, always willing to help others. Lebo and Success are fairly new, but are fun-loving people.
My favourite work snack? Apples and pears.
