“Meeting celebrities was fun, but …”
Me in a word: Openness.
I enjoyed a carefree childhood, with few responsibilities. But I’ll never forget the year I repeated Grade 12. With all my friends gone, I felt alone, and I realised that I needed to set goals of my own. There was no time to play. It was the wake-up call that I needed. I made sure that I passed Matric the following year, and I was excited to start studying in Gauteng.
Growing up, I thought I’d become a nurse, but I ended up choosing Information Technology. It was the start of my independence – then … life happened: I fell pregnant while I was still a student. This meant I had to find a part-time job, and began working at Pick & Pay as a cashier. It wasn’t an easy time. I had to push myself to finish the IT course, which took four years, since I had to repeat the year in which I was pregnant, but I succeeded.
My first job was at OR Tambo International, as a checking agent for Air France and KLM. The fun part was meeting celebrities and other interesting people, but there were too many night shifts and double shifts. I realised that this was not good for my health. I resigned, took some time off and then life began!
At home, when I cook, I like African food, like hardbody chicken and pap, and mogodu and pap. If I had more spare time, I’d love to sleep and get paid for it! This year, my husband and I are planning a trip to Mozambique to visit his family.
I joined Learning Curve in 2022. To me, engagement is a word that sums up this company. It’s a fun environment and the best family, especially my friendship with Jayshree. We work closely together; she’s so supportive and a good teacher, too. Here, I feel valued as a core part of the team in a positive culture where my contribution is appreciated
